To the Sun these worlds are linked by means of the quarters ('Śatapatha Brāhmaṇa', VI. 7.1.17). Beheld from above, the temple spreads from its finial to the four quarters, while seen from below it is a step-way (sopāna mārga) to ultimate release (mukti).¹⁹⁶
