v3.c19.149
In relation to the sculptures and castings of goddesses in South India, it may be observed that, in groups consisting of a god and two goddesses on either side, the goddess on the right is seen wearing the kucha-bandha (bodice) just as is worn at the present time by the Nambūdiri ladies under the name of mulaikkachchu or breast-band, and that the goddess on the left does not wear such a bodice. This is a noteworthy peculiarity. It may be particularly noticed in relation to the group of images consisting of Viṣṇu and his consorts Śrī and Bhū (see Pls. XXII and fig. 2, Pl. LXII). The meaning of this difference in the sculpturing is not evident.
