**Śrī Harṣadeva**—is accredited with three very popular stageable dramas—Ratnāvalī, Priyadarśikā and Nāgānanda. We have seen Bāṇa's alābu for holding colours and Kālidāsa's varṇikākaraṇḍaka, a box for holding brushes ; Śrī Harṣadeva speaks of ‘Samudgaka’ cf. गृहीत-समुद्गकचित्रफलकवर्तिका in the Ratnāvalī hinting practically at all the accessories of painting, colour box (Samudgaka), picture board (phalaka) and brush (vartikā).
