The inscriptional name **aṟuvai-vaṇikaṉ eḷa-a aṭaṉ** has an intriguing similarity with the name of the Caṅkam poet Maturai aṟuvai-vāṇikaṉ Iḷavēṭṭaṉ-ār cited above. U.Ve. Swaminathaiyar has noted that the name Vēṭṭaṉār is obscure (*Caṅka kāla pulavarkaḷ*: p. 351). Can *iḷavēṭṭaṉ* be a later form of *iḷa(v)a a(ṭ)ṭaṉ*? See discussion on the word-segments below.
