**a. cer-** (*ceṟṟ-*) (adj.) 'young, junior'. Cf. Ta. *ciṟu*, *ciṟṟu* 'small'; Ma. *ciṟṟu*, *ceṟṟu* id. (D. 1594). Cf. LT *ciṟṟāṟṟu* 'of the small stream' (*Kali.* 108:27). Sandhi: *ceṟ(u)* + *ataṉ* > *ceṟ(ṟ)-ataṉ*. *ceṟ-* is written separately with elision of stem-final *-u*, and *-ṟ-* is not doubled.
