The word-final nasal *m* is omitted apparently under the influence of Pkt. inscriptional orthography. Cf. (Pkt. inscr.) *dāna* (for *dānaṁ*) (Amaravati, C. Sivaramamurti 1977 reprint: Nos. 59, 64, 79; *Bhārhut Inscrs*: Word Index). The omission may also be due to nasalisation in the spoken language.
