The burial rite was inhumation - at Nal one adult and three infants in the same part of the cemetery were normal burials with complete skeletons (the adult was recorded as on its left side and slightly flexed), but the dominant rite here and at Damb Buthi was that of ‘fractional’ burial-inhumation of fragments of the skeleton, probably after previous exposure and disintegration. Some of the Nal groups represented several individuals, adults and children together; others comprised merely a few bones from a single skeleton, and at Damb Buthi in one instance at least two adults were represented in a single burial group.
