In the smaller sites the use of burnt brick is not so ubiquitous as in the cities; a circumstance not altogether surprising when the demands on fuel and labour implied by such building material are considered. But it is interesting to note that baked bricks of the standard Harappā proportions occur as far afield as Rupar on the Upper Sutlej, Derawar in Bikaner, and Rangpur in Kathiawar, as well as at Chanhu-daro and in sites in the Larkana neighbourhood. At Dabar Kot burnt bricks were found, but measuring 24 by 16 by 4 inches and 21 by 16 by 3 inches: these are outside the range of variations recorded in the Harappā bricks, but on the same site were also mud-bricks 21 by 10 by 3 inches, which offer a better comparison and are themselves paralleled in size and material on sites of both the Kulli and the Amri-Nal Cultures. At Sutkagen-dor burnt brick structures were recorded in the nineteenth century by Mockler, and some bricks found by Stein not *in situ* measured 16 by 6 by 2½ inches, again not within the known Harappā range.
