The core-tool family of Lower Palaeolithic stone implements is represented by a large number of finds, centred in South-East India but also coming from Central and Western India and even represented in the area of the Soan Culture itself. To this Indian representative of the core-tool group the name *Madras Industry* (or *Madras-Acheul*) has been given from its area of apparent main concentration.
