The appearance of a few tools of this type from four sites of Second Interglacial date in the river-terrace system of the Soan and Indus enables us to correlate the industry with the glacial sequence and so with a general chronological scheme, and the persistence there of the cultural tradition the type of tool represents is shown by the occurrence of evolved forms of core-tools with Late Soan types in one site in the same region (Chauntra). In South and Central India, where evidence of pluvial periods replaces that of glaciation, core-tools have been found in a pluvial period which may equate in part with the Second Interglacial phase, but which goes on into Third Interglacial times or even later.
