Three inscriptions near Ongole in Guntur District of the same period mention the E. Chāḷukya general Paṇḍaranga, and one of them states that he ‘conquered the Vengiṇāḍu,’ which was the home-territory of his own sovereign, Guṇaka. Light is thrown on this otherwise curious assertion by an inscription (Ind. Ant. 1884, p. 50) which says that the Vengi country was at this time ‘pervaded by the army of the Rāṣṭrakūṭas.’ It must be understood therefore that Paṇḍaranga drove the Rāṣṭrakūṭa forces out of the Vengiṇāḍu.
