⁵ The following verses are often found in the inscriptions of the Kannada-speaking area (cf. Ep. Carn., Vol. III, Sr. No. 64; Vol. XI, Jl. No. 41; Vol. XIV, Gu. No. 148, Nj. No. 295): Indraḥ pricchati Caṇḍālīm kim=idam pacyate śubhe | śra-māṃsaṃ surayā siktaṃ kapālena cit-agninā || kim=artham vada kalyāṇi karmaṇā pihitaṃ tvayā | Brahma-svaṃ Brāhmaṇa-kṣetram hārayanti haranti ye | teṣāṃ pāda-rajo-bhītyā karmaṇā pithitaṃ mayā ||
