¹ *Āsandī* (settee) is an old Vedic word. Pāṇini uses *Āsandīvat*, which was also the name of the royal city of Janamejaya (*Vedic Index*, I.72), so called because of its 'possessing the throne.' The *Kāśikā* equates Āsandīvat with Ahisthala (VIII.1.12).
