A rich kind of wrapper known as *rāṅkava* is referred to in ancient literature along with woollen fabrics.¹ Pāṇini mentions *raṅku* in *sūtra* IV.2.100, from which we get *rāṅkava* and *rāṅkavāyaṇa*. The *Kāśikā* explains *rāṅkava* as a blanket.
