Pāṇini also mentions *kumbā* (III.3.105) which according to the *Vedic Index* denoted a female adornment connected with the dressing of the hair (*Vedic Index*, I,163). In one place he refers to a special style of female coiffure (*keśa-veśa*) known as *kabarī* (IV.¹.42). The word may have originated from the variegated appearance of the braid of hair interwoven with a garland of flowers.
