From contemporary Muslim writers we learn that the Rāṣṭrakūṭa, Pāla, and Gurjara Pratihāra armies were famous for their infantry, elephant battalions and cavalry respectively. Al Masudi says about the Balhara i. e. the Rāṣṭrakūṭas king:-
