⁵ With a view to locating this province exactly, by identifying the town from which it took its appellation, it may be noted that later records mention a smaller district called the Sântalige nâḷ (an inscription at Ânawaṭṭi in Mysore; Carn.-Désa Inscrs. Vol. I. p. 200), the Sântalige kampana, including a village named Sidiyanûruḍivi (an inscription at Baḷagâmve; P. S. and O.-C. Inscrs. No. 184, Mysore Inscriptions, p. 96) and the Sântalige seventy (an inscription at Ablûr in the Dhârwâr District (Carn.-Désa Inscrs. Vol. II. p. 121). These names seem to be those of the head-quarters division of the Sântalige thousand, and to present the name in a later form which may be still extant.
