As has been remarked above, we have undoubtedly the mention of a Pahlava or Pallava king, on the eastern coast of Southern India, about the middle of the fourth century A. D., in the person of the Viṣṇugôpa of Kāñchī, whom the Early Gupta king Samudragupta is said to have captured and liberated again.⁴
