One of the Dêvagere grants¹ gives us the names of a Kadamba Mahârâja Krishṇavarman,² and of his son, the Yuvarâja Dêvavarman. As the other grants do in the case of Kâkusthavarman and his successors, it describes Krishṇavarman as anointed (to sovereignty) after meditating on the god Svâmi-Mahâsêna and on the assemblage of his mothers, and as belonging to the Mânavya gôtra. It asserts that he celebrated the aśvamêdha-sacrifice.³ And it says that he enjoyed his heritage after attacking some chieftains of Nâga descent.⁴ The charter was issued by Dêvavarman, at Triparvata. And it records the gift of same land to the Yâpanîya communities, or to the members of the Yâpanîya community, for the purposes of a temple of the divine Arhat.
