² The literary reference, in the Kathâkôsa of a modern writer named Brahmanêmidatta, to a Subhatunga at Mânyakhêta (Ind. Ant. Vol. XII. p. 215; in the text, as there given, for bhavati read Bharatê, as intimated by Mr. K. B. Pathak in the Jour. Bo. Br. R. As. Soc., Vol. XVIII. p. 222, note 21), must be connected either with this king, or with Krishna III. At any rate, it cannot apply to Krishna I., as I originally thought; for everything points to the foundation of Mânyakhêta having not been commenced till the time of Gôvinda III., and to the city having, in all probability, not been made the capital until the time of Amôghavarsha I.
