The oldest historical record is an inscription on a stone inside the famous shrine of Shah Jalāl at Sylhet. This record was made in the time of Shamsuddin Yusuf Shah, which ruled in Bengal from 1474 to 1481, but unfortunately only part of it is decipherable in its present position.
