The advance of the British troops was hampered by heavy rain, but they reached Jorhat on the 17th January and Gaurisāgar eight days later. The commissariat flotilla, with its escort of gunboats, being unable to ascend the shallow stream of the Dikhu, halted at its mouth, and from this point all supplies had to be transported by road.
