v1.c7.180

That there were Deshadikarees is proved by the Widnyanishwur Wutun [Watan]. Adikaree signifies a possessor, an heir, one who possesses some right or privilege; it is also frequently used as the name of any agent of government, superintending revenue affairs. The name itself, therefore, is in favour of the supposition, that the Deshadikars did exist as permanent hereditary officers; and that the Deshadikaree, like the Gramadikaree, was the principal superintendent amongst the body of relations for the time being.
