v2.c35.41

² [A letter from the Pēshwā to Colonel Upton, received on November 19, 1776, began as follows: ‘I have just now heard that Raghunāth Rāo arrived at the port of Bombay on the 28th of Ramzān, and the Governor of that place gave him an asylum in the said port. He, also, before gave protection in the above port and Salsette to the followers of the seditious Sadāshivrāo with elephants, horses, and baggage belonging to the Sarkār. These actions are very foreign to the meaning of the treaty under the Company’s seal, concluded by you between the Sarkār and all the English.’ (Forrest’s Selections (Marāthā Series), 1885, i. 286.)]
