¹ [Bālāji Kūnjar (Ballajee Koonjur) had been employed by Purandhare in collecting revenue in Khāndesh, and became a kind of orderly officer to Bājīrāo, to whom on one occasion he lent 8,000 rupees. Bājīrāo subsequently appointed him minister with a salary of 30,000 rupees a year. On the defeat of Bājīrāo at Poona in 1802, Bālāji Kūnjar urged the Pēshwā to form an alliance with Sindia rather than with the British. He remained with Sindia till a short time prior to his death at Pandharpur in 1816. His family was granted a pension by the British Government, in addition to the rights and allowances of Sar Pātelkī or head patelship of Poona. (Forrest, Selections (Marāthā Series), i. 682.)]
