v2.c49.63

¹ [Vickers was a half-caste, who entered Perron’s 2nd brigade as lieutenant under Major Pohlman, and displayed great bravery at the siege of Jhājgarh. When Dudrenec deserted from Holkar’s service, Vickers succeeded him and fought gallantly at the battle of Poona in October 1802. In 1804 when war broke out between Holkar and the British, the chief sent for Vickers and asked him if he would fight against his countrymen. He and two others, Dodd and Ryan, refused positively to do so, whereupon Jasvant Rāo Holkar had them all three beheaded at Nahar Maghāna (Tiger’s Hill) in May 1804.
