v2.c57.21

² [i.e. Kirkee (Khadkī). At the date of the battle, Kirkee was a small village. There were two battalions of native infantry (6th and 7th) and two guns, under the command of Colonel Burr at Garpīr, on the right bank of the Muthā, close to the present site of the Collector’s office. These troops, with the Bombay European regiment, quitted Garpīr for Kirkee, leaving one company to guard the cantonment and 250 men to reinforce the Residency escort. (Acworth, Maratha Ballads, p. 127.)]
