¹ Minhaj, p. 157, has “Lakhnouti” but its direction is indicated by its being coupled with Jajnagar. For its location, see Stewart: *History of Bengal*, p. 62, who identifies it with Nagar in Birbhum, about 85 miles S. W. of Lakhnauti, Banerji: *History of Orissa*, I, p. 248, supports it; Cunningham also seemed to accept the identification—*Reports*, VIII, p. 146, but later he became doubtful; op. cit. XV, p. 44. Mr. Chakravarti: *JASB*, (N.S.) V, p. 214-15, was inclined to place it somewhere in modern Murshidabad district. Lakhanor doubtless lay towards the south west on the Orissa frontier, Minhaj’s statement that Devkot and Lakhanor were both equidistant from Lakhnauti would tend to support Stewart’s identification.
