³ Ferishta, III, p. 126. The Maratha account introduces Ali Adil Shah protesting against the war with Vijayanagara; the other Sultans sent him the following message: "Please allow us passage through your territory. You should also join us with your army." Ali Adil Shah, duly honouring the envoy, replied as follows: "As I call myself a friend of Ram Raj, I am sorry I cannot help you." Cf. Afterwards however the Sultan of Bijapur appears by the side of the other Sultans against his old friend.
