¹ Ferishta, III, p. 127. Basatin-us-Salatin, p. 96-7, compares Rama Raya's army to a locust cloud, and states that the total number of his soldiers were one lakh of horse and five lakhs of foot-soldiers. There is a slight difference in these numbers as given in the Burhan-i-Ma'asir, Ind. Ant., L, p. 144: Venkatadri's army: 20,000 horse, 1,000 elephants and 100,000 foot. Eltamraj's (Tirumala's) army; 12,000 horse, 1,000 elephants and 200,000 foot.
