¹ Ferishta, III, p. 127-8; *Burhan-i-Ma'asir*, *Ind. Ant.*, L, p. 145; *Basatin-us-Salatin*, p. 97-8. Sewell, p. 199, note 2, says that this place was probably "the plains about the little village of Bayapur or Bhogapur on the road leading directly from Ingaligi to Mudkal." Ferishta, III, p. 247, while narrating the history of the Sultans of Ahmadnagar, says: "The kings of the Deccan made overtures to him (Rama Raya), promising the restitution of the districts they had taken from him on the march, in order to obtain peace; conceiving themselves unequal to cope with his formidable army. Ramraj however refused to listen to any accomodation." This statement seems inconsistent with the whole account of the battle and its preparations, and with his own narrative. It is evidently intended to extol the Muslim bravery in winning such an unequal engagement.
