It is evident from Mas‘ūdī (943 A.D.) that Arab ships also made direct voyage to Zābag, the capital city of the vast empire. Henceforth the vast maritime empire of Zābag looms large in the Arab annals, and it is definitely stated by Edrisi (1154) that on account of troubles and insecurity in China the trade of that country was diverted to Zābag and its dependent islands.⁴ The frequent and prominent mention of Sribuza, (Śrī-Vijaya) shows that it also formed an important trade-centre.
