v1.c15.19
The most convenient point at which to begin is Colombo, the strategical centre of British sea-power in the Indian ocean. Four streams of traffic, India-bound, converge upon Colombo from Aden and the Mediterranean, from the Cape, from Australia, and from Singapore and the Far East. From Cape Comorin, in the immediate neighbourhood of Colombo, the Indian coasts diverge to Bombay and Karāchi on the one hand, and to Madras, Calcutta, and Rangoon on the other.
