v1.c15.217
The contrary view, expressed in the *Imperial Gazetteer* (I, p. 355), viz. that the Piçācha languages are the result of an Āryan invasion of a region originally Irānian, seems to be less probable. It presupposes the existence of an early settlement of Āryans in the Pāmīrs, distinct from 'the Āryans proper, who had entered the Punjab by the valley of the Kābul,' and is thus bound up with the hypothesis of a second wave of Āryan immigration.
