v1.c15.27

A hundred and fifty miles west of Trichinopoly is Ootacamund, high on the Nīlgiri hills. 'Ooty,' as it is familiarly called, stands some seven thousand feet above the sea in the midst of a country of rolling downs, rising at highest to nearly nine thousand feet. This lofty district forms the southern point of the Deccan plateau, where the Eastern and Western Ghāts draw together.
