v1.c15.31
Northward of the Nīlgiris, on the plateau between the Ghāts, is the large native state of Mysore. The Cauvery river rises in the Western Ghāts, almost within sight of the western sea, and flows eastward across Mysore. As it descends the Eastern Ghāts it makes great falls. Then it traverses the Carnatic lowland past Trichinopoly and Tanjore to the Bay of Bengal. The falls have been harnessed and made to supply power, which is carried electrically for nearly a hundred miles to the Kolār goldfield.
