v1.c15.65

Two great provinces divide the plain of Hindustān between them. In the east is Bihār, with its capital at Patna; in the west are the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh with their capital at Allahābād. For administrative purposes Bihār is now joined with Orissa, the deltaic plain of the Mahānadī river on the coast of Bengal. A broad belt of sparsely populated hills separates Bihār from Orissa, whereas each of these fertile lowlands opens freely to Bengal, the one along the Ganges, and the other along the coast.
