The Khan’s game clearly was to inveigle Shivaji into the Muslim Camp, so that means could be easily found to detain him and carry him in chains to Bijapur, or encompass his ruin in some other way. The plan was quite transparent to a man of Shivaji’s keenness, particularly as the Khan’s views, his present professions and past conduct were matters of common knowledge.
