v2.c29.37
The Marathas were now faced with terrible starvation brought about by a complete stoppage of food supplies from outside. As the high price of food exhausted the money in Bhau Saheb’s treasury, he with Sindia and Holkar erected three separate mints in the camp and melted down all the men’s and women’s gold and silver ornaments, thus producing a quantity of fresh rupees stamped with the words *Bhaushahi*, *Jankushahi*, and *Malharshahi*. But this money did not last for more than two weeks.
