Bhau Saheb’s original plan of forcing out a passage required a careful combination between his three arms, artillery, infantry and cavalry. Such a combination could not be preserved in the combat as it actually developed. The Maratha units neither understood, nor had a mind to follow accurately the instructions that were issued to them on the basis of the plan advised by Ibrahim Khan.
