Meantime, Raghuji Bhonslé, at the invitation of Mustafa, had invaded the province, which hastened the return of Alivardi to Bengal and detained him there. This news encouraged Mustafa to come out of Chunār, just before the arrival of the monsoon rains which would make campaigning impossible for the imperialists and give him time to enrich himself by plunder. He entered the Shāhābād district and reached the zamīndāri of Udwant Singh Ujjainiā, the owner of Jagadispur, who had long been hostile to the governor of Bihār.
