One version of Rājādhirāja's *praśasti* (*tingaḷēr*) mentions, as an introduction to the war with the three Pāṇḍyas, a conflict with and subjugation of a certain Vikramanāraṇa 'who had opposed the prince's father (*tādai mun vanda*); the conflict lasted for about ten days and at its end Rājādhirāja is said to have assumed the title Bhūpendra-Cōḷa.¹⁴⁶ From the context one might be led to think that Vikramanāraṇa was a southern prince; but the account of the second war against the Cāḷukyas given later in the same *praśasti* shows that he was a Cāḷukya commander and was for some reason known as Cakravarṭi Vikramanāraṇa.¹⁴⁷
