13. The words: ‘*Ivvūr mun irutta paḍiyum paḷḷiyum uṭ-paḍa*’ are rendered by Krishna Sastri into: ‘as paid before by this village inclusive of *paḷḷi*’. In other words, he takes iruttapaḍiyum to mean ‘in the manner in which payment was made’, and the words in l. 71: ‘*ivvūr paḷḷi uṭ paḍa irai kāṭṭina nellu*’ may be quoted in support of this view. But the ‘*um*’ in ‘*paḍiyum*’ is a real difficulty in its way, and I have preferred to take ‘*paḍi*’ like ‘*paḷḷi*’ to be some kind of tax or due, of which the nature is not clear. Seeing that it is omitted in l. 71, one may think that it is either negligible or closely analogous to ‘*paḷḷi*.’
