Śiva, the dominating figure in the group, holds the right hand of Pārvatī, to his right. The form of marriage called Pāṇigrahaṇa, is the most commendable of all the forms of marriage. Pārvatī’s shyness and modesty are indicated skilfully by her looking down a little. That she is very young (*kanyā*) is suggested by the softness of treatment. The graceful *bhaṅga* in which she stands supports this.
