Ravivarman killed Vishnuvarman and other kings in battle, and occupied Pālāsikā after driving out Chandadanda, ‘Lord of Kāñchī’, a title which here seems to mean only ‘a Pallava’ and not necessarily ‘ruler of Kāñchī’. Most probably Chandadanda belonged to the same branch of the Pallavas as Śāntivara who anointed Vishnuvarman. The successes of Ravivarman restored the original unity and extent of the Kadamba kingdom.
