Some time later Jaṭāvarman Kulaśekhara, who came to the Pāṇḍyan throne after Vikrama Pāṇḍya in 1190, provoked Kulottunga by his insubordination. About 1205 Kulottunga led a third expedition into the Pāṇḍya country, sacked the capital and demolished the coronation hall of the Pāṇḍyas—conduct which may be taken to prove Kulottunga’s consciousness of the increasing weakness of his own position. As the war ended with the restoration of Kulaśekhara, the success of Kulottunga was by no means complete and the seed was sown for a war of revenge.
