Between 1262 and 1264, on an appeal for help from a minister of Ceylon, Jaṭāvarman Vira Pāṇḍya invaded the island, defeated and killed one Ceylonese prince and received the submission of another as also that of a son of Chandrabhānu of the Malay peninsula who ruled over a principality in the north of Ceylon. Both the Pāṇḍya invasions of the island fell in the reign of Parākramabāhu II who appears never to have gained mastery over the northern half of the island but left its fate to be settled by local adventurers and foreign invaders.
