Pratāparudra II succeeded his grandmother in 1295 and ruled till 1326. Early in his reign one of his generals led an expedition into Kuntala, capturing the forts of Ādavāni (Adoni) and Raichur, among others, after driving out the Yādava garrisons, and brought the territory under Kākatīya rule. Pratāparudra reformed the administrative system by dividing the kingdom into 77 nāyakships, confining recruitment thereto to the Padmanāyaka community and thoroughly overhauling the staff of nāyakas. Some of the great nāyakas, like Kāpaya Nāyaka, who later played a great part in resisting the Muslims, were the products of this system which, incidentally, was later adopted and elaborated by the rulers of Vijayanagar.
