In lexicography the large *nigaṇḍu* (lexicon) called *Pingalam* after its author belongs to this period. Its topical divisions are different from those of *Divākaram*, the earliest extant lexicon composed by Divākara under the patronage of a Śendan of Ambar sometime in the eighth century A.D. Little is known of the author of *Pingalam*; he is mentioned in the *Nannūl* and seems to have been a Śaiva.
