The philosophical literature of Śaiva-siddhānta had its beginnings date in this period in two works, *Tiruvundiyār* by Tiruviyalūruyyavanda-dēvar and *Tirukkaḷiṟṟuppaḍiyar* by Tirukkaḍavūruyyavanda-dēvar; the latter is said to have been the pupil of the former and these two works composed in 1148 and 1178 are the only ones among the fourteen works comprising the Siddhānta-śāstra that precede *Śiva-Ñāna-Bōdam* of Meykaṇḍār, the celebrated manual of Śaivism.
